Rushes

Rushes was absolutely delighted to be involved with Fool for Love, a project which has allowed us to contribute to bringing what was originally a theatre piece to cinematic life. Rushes created both a sequence and a series of projections which are shown throughout the play, all created by Rushes' Inferno artist, Claire Pollock. Claire combined shot footage, including stunning shots of the Nevada Desert, with stock footage of different skies, and then combined these with footage of various blue screen shots of iconic elements and of the old man.

Started in 1977, and acquired by Liberty Media in 2000, Rushes is now one of Europe's top special effects and post production houses. Catering mainly to commercials and music video makers, the company aims to provide clients with the best possible service in a creative friendly and professional environment.

Rushes commands a high profile in the very competitive London market and the company's work regularly wins awards worldwide. The company also receives considerable media attention - mainly in the trade press, although Rushes work has also appeared on the front page of The Times and was featured on the BBC's popular science programme Tomorrows World.

A talented staff of over 80, many of whom have considerable international work experience, have access to the most comprehensive line-up of top-end post production technology in London. Rushes places great emphasis on leading edge engineering and is frequently first in Europe with new innovations.

The company's facilities are mostly located in four interconnected buildings in the heart of Soho, London's film and television district.

Telecine is an area where Rushes has an extremely strong reputation not only in highly creative work and quality transfers but also in advanced in house engineering and R&D. The company has the world's first pair of blueprinted Ursa Diamond telecines, as well as the world's first C-Reality from Cintel. These fully featured telecine suites have da Vinci Renaissance DUI 8:8:8 grading together with "Jump Free" advanced image stabilisation and even Kaleidoscope DVE. Rushes can justifiably claim the best telecine pictures in the world. The company has two Discreet Fire suites replacing our conventional digital online edit suites. Rushes award winning special effects areas encompass two Inferno suites, two Flame suites, our 3D CGI department and Rocket. Rushes was the first company in the world to acquire the powerful Flame / Onyx combination in 1993 and have built up considerable experience with this advanced technology. Being resolution independent, this facility has allowed Rushes to enter the feature film effects market.

3D Computer Animation & SFX is based around a series of SGI workstations running SoftImage, Alias|Wavefront, Maya and a number of other software packages. Rushes 3D harness a powerful Challenge XL Twelve processor server for rapid rendering by day and the power of two eight processor Onyx computers by night, along with a host of Indigo Extreme work stations.

Commercials account for the majority of the company's work. Rushes counts among its clients 24 out of the top 25 British advertising agencies as well as many leading production companies both in Europe and the UK. Music video is around 20% of the business. Rushes has worked for almost every major recording artist including The Spice Girls, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Elton John, Madonna and Blur. Effects for feature films is a smaller proportion of the business, having worked on major projects such as Tomorrow Never Dies and Lost In Space. Remaining sales are mainly made up of high-end corporate work and TV graphics.
